Dr. Mrs. The Monarch

August 27th, 2009 1 comment

Ok, so some of you may have read my post dealing with The Venture Brothers. Granted, I didn’t talk a whole lot about the show in that post.

So anyway, I wrapped up the third season during this last weekend, just in time before my MBA classes started and I wouldn’t have time to watch much TV or shows. It’s a hilarious show. It’s about Dr. Thaddeus Venture and his two sons (Hank and Dean), who are the Venture brothers. His arch-enemy is The Monarch, a crazy guy in a butterfly-like suit, who is my favorite character outside of his wife. There are a bunch of other characters, such as Dr. Orpheus (Laura’s favorite) and Brock Samson.

Most of the characters in the show are complete losers. Brock Samson isn’t, and he’s a big reason why Dr. Venture hasn’t been killed yet. Another character in the show that isn’t a loser is Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, previously Dr. Girlfriend, previously Queen Etherea, previously Lady Au Pair… Yeah, long list of former names. Actually, it’s easier to call her Dr. Girlfriend, as it’s the shortest name and she spent a lot of time in that name when compared to the others.

Some history behind Dr. Girlfriend, basically, she’s always been a #2 arch enemy. She eventually fell in love with The Monarch and married him, thus the name change. For a cartoon character, she’s pretty hot, especially once she creates her own butterfly-themed costume. Despite the fact that she has basically a man’s voice… But she’s the brains behind The Monarch’s arching of Dr. Venture, while he’s the raw hatred and passion. But he’s still mostly a loser.

So I mention all of this because Andy Taylor said since I like The Monarch, I should go as him for Halloween this year. Which would make Laura Dr. Mrs. The Monarch… My first thought was “Holy crap, that character is already pretty hot! And that would be Laura? Jizz in my Pants?!”

Unfortunately, I can’t pull off The Monarch as well as I’d like. He’s pretty well in shape, has a six-pack, etc. Not me. I’m still losing weight, let alone toning and building muscle. I don’t have time for that right now.

But man, it’d be so worth it just to see Laura in a Dr. Mrs. The Monarch outfit… I totally have to convince Laura to be those 2 characters for Halloween. Thank you Andy for this excellent suggestion!

Ah, pirates. We all love them, don’t we? The Pirates of the Caribbean movies really helped popularize them. And let’s all not forget Talk Like a Pirate Day, which recently passed on September 19th. I sure hope you partook in the festivities and battened down those damned hatches!

In any case, Laura and I have settled on what we’re going to be for Halloween this year: pirates. After that long preamble, you should have expected such a revelation to arise, especially so close to Halloween.

Laura and I go to the Renaissance Fair every year here in town, and I’ve been slowly but surely building a proper outfit for it. Some years ago, I got a sword. Then last year, a shirt and leather vest. This year, pants. These items made it a lot easier to decide to go as a pirate for Halloween, since I already have Renaissance-era clothing and would only have to add accessories to the outfit to work for Anne‘s annual Boo Diamond Halloween Bash. Laura recently bought her outfit online and added two accessories from a local annual costume store. All I need now is a decent belt — my pants are drawstring with no belt loops, so I need a more specialized one. Hopefully I’ll find one.

All of this pirate stuff has also made me settle on what my outfit for the Renaissance fair will be when completed: a pirate. Haha! Actually, I really wanted to get a nice pirate hat at this year’s festival, but unfortunately the authentic ones are over $130. Yikes! Maybe next year.

I’ve decided I can’t really use any of the costume accessories I got for my Halloween outfit this year for my Renaissance costume. They’re not anywhere near authentic enough, and I’d feel funny wearing them. We’ll see how it goes, the boot toppers may work. But I eventually want that outfit to be all authentic. It’s gonna take years.

So in any case, Laura and I are looking more and more forward to this year’s bash. We couldn’t make last year’s because Laura had a concert that same night, but not this time!
