Welcome to the reboot of my blog, DarqByte. I let it linger for almost a year and there was a lot of content on my old blog I needed to remove and whatnot. So again, welcome to the reboot of my blog. I hope you like the new design, which I did not create myself. I think it looks good and clean.

So I’ve been thinking about how people get into sports lately. I find it really interesting, how fans of a particular team end up getting so vested in the outcomes of their games. I’m a Titans fan myself, and I end up realizing that when the Titans win, it affects my mood positively more than it probably should. In this case, the reverse is also true — when they lose, I may be down for a small while, which is pretty ludicrous because I didn’t even play the game.

Fans of opposing teams will really get into it. This happens at UNLV-UNR games all of the time, at least the games that I’ve attended here in Vegas. The home and visitor sections meet in the endzone and the fan interaction there is pretty rough. Fights happen all of the time, and most of the time I just wonder “Why?” Why on earth are you getting into fights with fans from the other team? Are the two of you playing the game? Does your team beating their team make you better in some way or other? No, it does not.

I think this all comes from the competitive spirit of humans. Humans are pretty competitive in general, as I’m sure many of you would agree. This kind of natural behavior leads to all sorts of good and bad things. Competition brings out the best in people, but as in sports, it can bring out the worst too, especially in fans.

Well, hope you liked reading my musings. I’m hoping to write much more often than I used to. Keep an eye out.
