Ban Viagra!

May 7th, 2009 Robert 6 comments

Alright, so this congressman wants to limit the times of day that erectile dysfunction ads can be broadcast, so that they cannot be on the air from 6am to 10pm. Read about it here.

This is stupid. Sure, the commercials are mildly embarrassing, and little kids probably shouldn’t see them. But this is overprotecting our kids. Pharmaceutical companies have a right to advertise their products just like anybody else. Honestly, if we start banning ED commercials, then you know what I want to see? I want to see tampon and pad commercials banned.

That’s right. I said it. Men everywhere probably feel it too. Those damn ads for Tampax tampons or friggin’ pads for women’s periods. We don’t want to see those stupid ads either, and I’m sure little kids don’t need to be seeing those too. So why stop at banning ED ads during certain times of day? A ban like that should be extended to feminine products.

Oh, this one time, I saw a friggin’ commercial for a douche. Fucking serious! A damn douche! You think men everywhere want to see that? Fuck no! Just like women don’t want to see cheesy ED commercials, men definitely don’t want to watch these lame commercials where some woman has this stupid grin on her face, followed by an animation of some tampon that soaks up bodily fluids using high-tech channels, or some shit.

Just stupid. Ban one, ban ‘em all, I say. Oh, and I apologize for the profanity in this post. I don’t normally curse here on my blog, but it felt appropriate and I think conveyed the tone I wanted to. See, there’s a method to my madness. :D

[Edit]

You did get that I’m semi-joking around here, right? Right? :) But seriously. This is one ban that shouldn’t be enforced…

March 26th, 2009 Robert No comments

Apparently Paul and Storm think that Wil Wheaton is the best choice for Secretary of Geek Affairs. But they never considered “Weird” Al Yankovic for the position! Help me in supporting Weird Al by signing this online petition asking for a new election with his consideration!

Your support is appreciated! Get the word out and let’s get a new election for Weird Al!

[Update 1]

So yeah, awhile back someone informed me that there was a vote. Oh well… Sorry Al!

Give Credit Where Credit (Barely) Due

October 31st, 2008 Robert No comments

So many of you are aware that I’m liberal. I’m not hardcore liberal or anything, but I lean that way. Thus, I don’t like to watch Fox News or read their website because their bias is so… disgustingly obvious, it drives me away. But lately I’ve come to the realization that I should probably read their articles on their site once in awhile to see what they say. Sometimes I’m curious to see if I can detect the thick conservative bias in their articles.

Pretty much yeah, I can detect it every time. Rarely do I not. And regardless of the content of their articles, they tend to have a higher percentage of “negative” articles on Obama than most news sites, and conversely, a lower percentage of “positive” articles on McCain. Granted, some of that could be attributed to the purported liberal bias in most of today’s mainstream media. But who knows, really.

In any case, two articles I read today were on their blogging system, and I felt compelled to comment on both articles. After commenting on the first, my comment was not immediately posted. I looked the article over a little and determined that they are most likely running WordPress, which I’m running here, and probably had to moderate the comment for it to show up. I also commented on the other soon after.

Since my comments had to be moderated, I decided that I would write about the conclusion of the moderation process. Someone in Fox News had to manually go into the blogs and moderate the comments, either approving them to display or removing them. It was a test, I decided. Both of my comments went against the grain that Fox News is — conservative. They were liberal comments, for lack of a better term. One was a, I’ll admit, scurillous comment directed to a previous commenter that basically threw his snark comment back in his face. The other was lamenting something someone in the article said.

Thus, I waited. For five minutes. The comments on either article did not change in number, which was hopeful, let’s say, that mine hadn’t been left out in the cold.

Finally, I refreshed both articles and their comment lists had lengthened. I scroll down to the bottom of both and… Lo and behold! My comments were there! Not removed, as I had actually expected them to be.

In conclusion, I have to give a small, small, very small piece of credit to the people who are running the Fox News website’s blogs. At least they allow “liberal” comments to be posted.
